More than half of the 28 million small businesses in the United States are home-based. But without proper insurance planning, even the most promising home-based business dream can quickly turn into a nightmare, according to the Iowa Insurance Division. The agency announced it has developed an online toolkit for home-based business owners on its Insure U for Small Business website Learning more about business insurance early can avoid costly misunderstandings later, Insurance Commissioner Nick Gerhart said in a release. “Many home-based entrepreneurs put their business and personal finances at risk by incorrectly assuming their business assets are covered by personal insurance policies,” Gerhart said.
