The Home Connection, a program of Hawthorn Hill, recently finished renovations on a new property at East 16th Street and Court Avenue, transforming it from a run-down six-plex into three two-bedroom apartments to house homeless families, primarily single mothers with children. “With the waiting list for transitional housing for local homeless as long as it is right now, we know we’ll have no trouble moving three families into these apartments,” said Hawthorn Hill’s executive director, Tim Shanahan. The renovation cost was offset by contributions by the Polk County Housing Trust Fund and Great Western Bank. With this property, the Home Connection now has 31 units for people transitioning out of homelessness.
