House sales down in October, but remain above year-ago numbers

119 wordsAll Latest News, Real Estate and DevelopmentGreater Des Moines home sales, pending sales and sales prices dropped in October from September, but remained above year-ago levels, according to a report from the Greater Des Moines Association of Realtors. Sales dropped to 1,120 at a median price of $178,000 last month, compared with 1,206 sales in September at a median price of $180,000. Pending sales dropped to 1,084 last month from 1,163. In October 2015, 1,111 homes sold at a median price of $175,000 and contracts were written for the future purchase of 1,000 homes. Houses that sold in October had been on the market an average 69 days, compared with 91 in October 2015. The inventory of houses for sale also declined slightly to 3,405.
