IFA awards affordable housing tax credits

The Iowa Finance Authority board has awarded more than $8.6 million in federal housing tax credits to support the construction of 552 rental homes for families and seniors in Grimes and Norwalk in Greater Des Moines, as well as in Cedar Rapids, Dubuque, Harlan, Marshalltown, Marion, Pella, Red Oak, Spencer and Waterloo, according to a release. IFA received 31 applications requesting more than $22.2 million in housing tax credits in the 2019 tax credit round, and it had approximately $8.8 million available to allocate. The actual awards exceed $86.6 million because the credits are committed annually for a 10-year period. Latitude Lofts at 551 S.E. Gateway Circle in Grimes was awarded $827,806 for 45 units. Alice Place at Norwalk was awarded $839,000 for 53 senior units. The IFA also awarded $755,079 for an Urbandale apartment project that has been scuttled by the City Council.
