Index of Iowa stocks sagged in October
Maybe the boo factor hit Iowa stocks last month.
Six of the 23 Iowa-based public companies on the Business Record’s Iowa Index experienced gains in October. The remainder dropped, though it should be mentioned that among the losers, Rockwell Collins Inc. and Art’s Way Manufacturing Inc. each lost a scant 2 cents per share.
Winnebago Industries Inc. led the short list of gainers. The Forest City-based manufacturer of recreational vehicles saw its stock climb 19.86 percent to $28.25. Can’t you feel the wind in your hair as you take off on late-fall road trip?
The other companies that posted gains were Principal Financial Group Inc., up 6 percent to $54.60 per share; Heartland Financial USA Inc., up 3.83 percent to $37.45; Renewable Energy Group Inc., up 3.31 percent to $8.75; HNI Corp., up 2.16 percent to $40.66; and American Equity Investment Life Holding Co., 1.13 percent to $17.93.
On the flip side of the index, Lee Enterprises Inc. saw its stock drop 32 percent to $2.55 per share. NewLink Genetics Corp. dropped 19.11 percent to $12.15 a share; Flexsteel Industries Inc. dropped 18.99 percent to $41.90 a share; KemPharm Inc. dropped 17.59 percent to $3.70 a share; and Meredith Corp. dropped 12.77 percent to $45.35/
Overall, the Iowa Index fell 3.75 percent to $32.75 per share. In September, the index slipped 2.44 percent to $34 a share.
