Iowa Flood Center completes risk maps
The Iowa Flood Center has completed four years of mapping flood risks in 85 Iowa counties that were declared disaster areas during the 2008 flood, Iowa Environmental Focus reported. The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers plans to map the remaining 14 counties over the next year. The flood center’s maps show areas that have a 1 percent annual chance of a flood, or a 0.2 percent chance of a flood. That will help communities see which buildings and other facilities are at risk.
