Iowa National Guard’s Orr to retire

112 wordsAll Latest News, Government Policy and LawMaj. Gen. Tim Orr plans to retire as adjutant general of the Iowa National Guard on May 1. Orr enlisted in the Iowa Army National Guard in 1978 as a senior at Boone High School. His tenure included a rise in prominence of the guard and overseeing the deployment of 2,800 soldiers to Afghanistan, the largest federal mobilization since World War II. More recently, he was central to the development of stronger relations with Kosovo, which opened a consulate in Des Moines. Brig. Gen. Stephen Osborn, the current director of the Iowa National Guard Joint Staff, will serve as the interim adjutant general. Osborn, a Davenport native, has over 30 years of military service.
