Reach Out and Read Midwest has announced a new partnership with Iowa Total Care to distribute 30,000 children’s books for Iowa families. The initiative is funded in part by a $10,000 grant from Iowa Total Care, which will go toward purchasing 10,000 new books, alongside 20,000 copies of Susie’s Big Day and Doc the Dog’s Healthy Habits, titles created by the organization to promote literacy and healthy routines. Participating pediatric clinics statewide will give books to children during well-child visits, with additional copies available at other appointments. Reach Out and Read, a national nonprofit that promotes early childhood literacy and healthy early relationships with caregivers, expanded to Iowa in May and named an executive director.
