The Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service is seeking nominations for inductees to the Iowa Volunteer Hall of Fame, the most prestigious state-level honor that volunteers can receive. The hall of fame, established in 1989, honors Iowans who have “forever changed their community, the state, the nation or the world with their volunteer service and action.”

“We can all share in our rich history of volunteering and neighbor helping neighbor,” Gov. Chet Culver said in a release. “Iowans continue to embrace the values of commitment to community and service to others. As governor, it’s my pleasure to identify and recognize Iowans who truly have made an impact.”

Nominations can be submitted in any of six categories: individual, organization/nonprofit, group, family, business/corporation or labor union. Selection of inductees is based on merit and is not necessarily limited to one honoree per category. Completed nomination materials must be received by Jan. 9. More than 100 individuals and organizations have been inducted into the hall of fame since its inception; Kemin Industries Inc. was among the honorees last year.

Inductees will be honored during a special ceremony at the Capitol, and their names will be engraved on a special plaque on permanent display in the State Historical Museum.
