Gov. Kim Reynolds today ordered all flags in Iowa to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise on Thursday, Oct, 24, to sunset on Friday, Oct. 25, in honor and remembrance of Jo Ann McIntosh Zimmerman, Iowa’s first female lieutenant governor, who was elected in 1986. Zimmerman died Tuesday at the age of 82, the Des Moines Register reported. “Jo Ann blazed a trail for others to follow,” Reynolds said in a news release. “As a nurse, school board member, legislator and lieutenant governor, she led with a caring heart and with a true passion for public service. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and loved ones.”
