Each year, more than 5,000 students go through the Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards program, a yearlong Des Moines Performing Arts community initiative that focuses on high school acting talents and provides a way to recognize student works. A news release this week outlined several pieces of news for the program. For the first time, the June 4 showcase will be live-streamed at iptv.org as part of a collaboration with Iowa Public Television. IPTV will air a highlights special of the evening later this summer. The IHSMTA program launched in 2013 with nine Central Iowa schools participating and has grown to serve 68 schools across the state.
