Iowa State University Research Park has received a $1.7 million grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration to accommodate infrastructure improvements for Deere & Co.’s new manufacturing test lab facility, which the company announced in May. The grant, announced by the agency last week, will fund half the cost of road, water/sewer and other utility and infrastructure extensions at the Ames research park, said ISU Research Park President Steve Carter. “This is the first time we have been able to secure these [EDA] funds, so we are very appreciative,” he said. The infrastructure improvements, expected to be completed by spring 2019, will also open up at least 60 additional acres for development on the east side of the research park along Riverside Drive, Carter said. Deere’s planned facility, expected to be completed by next summer, will serve as a design and test lab for agricultural spraying and applications technology.
