The latest quarterly results from Casey’s General Stores Inc. reinforce what The Motley Fool wrote about the company last year: “If Casey’s could sell only snacks and beverages, it might be able to give Starbucks a run for its money.”

In its most recent nine months, the Ankeny-based convenience store chain had a 62.8 percent profit margin on prepared foods and fountain drinks, 33.1 percent on groceries and other merchandise, and just 5 percent on gasoline sales.

As the Fool noted, “Customers primarily head to the convenience stores to refuel, but end up purchasing prepackaged and prepared fodder as an afterthought or impulse buy.”

So complain about the skyrocketing cost of gasoline if you want. Just don’t do it with your mouth full of pizza.
