Jobless claims increased last week
The number of people filing initial claims for unemployment insurance last week rose by 34,000 compared with a week earlier.
Economists for Bloomberg cited automakers’ annual retooling period, which temporarily shuts down factories, as a cause for the increase.
The four-week moving average, which is not as volatile as the Labor Department’s weekly report on jobless claims, decreased by 2,000.
