Jury awards former Des Moines arborist nearly $650,000
Des Moines Register: A Polk County jury on Tuesday found that the city of Des Moines violated the Iowa Civil Rights Act and must pay $633,000 in lost wages and damages to a former employee of the Public Works Department. Allyn Roberts, a former city arborist, sought accommodations to no longer do above-ground tasks such as climbing and using a bucket truck after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, a brain disorder that can prompt shaking, stiffness and issues with balance that worsen over time, according to the National Institutes of Health.
