The medical supplier Katecho Inc. plans to expand its facility at 4020 Gannett Ave. Plans submitted to the city show a 16,000-square-foot addition to the building’s warehouse.

Construction could begin by this summer and if all goes according to plan, the warehouse could be enclosed by fall. This will be the third addition to the Katecho facility in six years.

Lorne Scharnberg, president and CEO of Katecho, said a change in the way the company’s customers handle medical warehousing has opened a new market.

More direct shipping of inventory to clients’ customers and an increased demand for warehousing have created the need for more space, Scharnberg said. “It was a natural progression to go to this process,” he said.
