In an effort to curb “doctor shopping,” physicians will be required to register prescriptions with the state’s drug monitoring program within 24 hours. In addition, handwritten prescriptions will become a thing of the past. Prescriptions will be submitted electronically to prevent attempts to alter the doctor’s handwriting. The Iowa Senate approved the measure earlier.
