Link announces construction of second fully ADA compliant home

In a news release, officials with the community-based nonprofit that provides services to people with intellectual disabilities, said ground was broken on the project in late October. The home, at 1436 E. 25th St. in Des Moines, will include two oversized bathrooms with roll-in showers and overhead track systems for special lifts in each of the five bedrooms and both bathrooms. It will have a total of 1,600 square feet. The backyard patio was designed for easy access with enough space for up to four people in wheelchairs. The first handicapped accessible Link home began construction in the fall of 2019 at 1424 E. 25th St. It was completed in April. It was built as a partnership with Link Associates, Bankers Trust, Tanzanite Homes, Coldwell Banker and various subcontractors. It is named the Bankers Trust — Gehm legacy Home in honor of Tim Gehm, who died in 2018 of liver cancer. He was vice president and finance manager at Bankers Trust, where he worked for 28 years. One of the four residents living in the home is Gehm’s daughter, Molly.
