Little Beaver Creek turns red; DNR investigates
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is investigating what turned Little Beaver Creek red near the Grimes sewage treatment plant. The color, which may have been pollution from a local business, may have spread to Johnston over the weekend. Investigators did not find dead fish or evidence of other environmental damage, but plan to continue the investigation today. The DNR is warning people to stay out of the stream and to keep their pets away, as a precaution.
