Mediacom Communications announced it has completed the transition of its West Des Moines network to the new 10G platform, which aims to achieve the symmetrical speeds of fiber on a cable network. The 10G platform will allow Mediacom to scale from current speeds of 1 gigabit to 10 gigabits per second and beyond in the coming years, according to a press release. It will also close the bridge between download speeds and typically much slower upload speeds, which is used for video calling and streaming live video. In the affected areas, the company’s existing plans will get a boost in upload speeds without requiring any new infrastructure updates. The next cities in Iowa to get 10G are Bertram, Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, Fairfax, Hiawatha and Marion.
