The median sale price of homes sold in the Greater Des Moines area dropped to $295,000 in April, $20,000 less than March’s median sales price of $315,000, according to data from the Des Moines Area Association of Realtors.

April’s home sale price was also slightly lower than April 2025 when it was $296,500, data shows.

Other data from the association’s April report show that:

  • 1,234 homes were sold, up 14% from March and 6.2% from a year ago.
  • Active listings totaled 3,909, up slightly from March when 3,892 properties were listed. In April 2025, 3,813 properties were listed for sale.
  • Homes were on the market an average of 71 days, down 14.3% from March. In April 2025, homes were on the market for an average of 66 days.
  • 846 transactions, or 68.8% were financed conventionally; 183 sales, or 14.8%, were cash transactions.

“April’s numbers reflect a healthy and active spring market across the metro,” Scott Steelman, association president, said in a prepared statement. “Inventory continues to grow, sales activity remains strong and pending transactions point to continued momentum heading into the early summer months. Buyers are seeing more options enter the market while sellers continue to benefit from steady demand.”
