Morsel Combat serves up star chefs for charity
Some of Central Iowa’s top chefs and restaurants will help fight hunger at Meals from the Heartland’s Morsel Combat. The event runs 5 to 9 p.m. Sept. 30 at Prairie Meadows. The volunteer chefs will make small plates for a tasting event. Attendees, along with local celebrity judges, will vote for their favorite dish, determining the top chef.
This year’s chefs include:
•Diego Critelli, Trellis Cafe & Catering and Port of Des Moines.
•Wallace Franklin, Saison.
•John Dana Custis, Travelling Chef.
•Matt Drennan, Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar.
•Renee Formaro, Formaro’s Stuffed Food Truck.
•Alex Strauss, Hy-Vee.
•Glenn Pike, AJ’s Steakhouse.
•Aaron Holt, RoCA.
•Jay Wang, Wasabi.
The winning Morsel Combat Top Chef team will receive a paid trip for two to participate at a Cochon555 event. Cochon555 is a culinary tour dedicated to supporting family farmers and educating chefs and diners on heritage breed pigs. Helping judge will be chef Dean Luttrell of the Iowa Culinary Institute; Des Moines Register food and dining reporter Brian Taylor Carlson, and chef Terrie Kohl of Country Club Market. A raffle and dessert samples also are planned. Advance tickets are $75.
