Neighborhood Finance Corp., the nonprofit group that provides loans and grants to revitalize homes in designated areas of Polk County, celebrated its 25th year in 2015, and by the end of the year issued a loan that put it over the $300 million mark. To help improve neighborhoods, NFC lending programs provide forgivable loans of up to $10,000 with every mortgage loan it issues. The forgivable loans can be used to pay for property repairs and improvements when purchasing a home in an NFC lending area. Eligible home buyers can also receive a subsidy (forgivable) up to $2,500 to assist with the down payment and/or closing costs on a home purchase.
