The West Des Moines City Council is expected to take action today on plans for a hospital project and a large medical clinic expansion.

The council will hold a public hearing this afternoon on Mercy Medical Center’s proposed Mercy West Lakes Hospital project during its regular meeting. The council approved rezoning of the site to a planned unit development in January and now will consider requests by Mercy to incorporate additional land and modify the existing development standards.

Also, the council is expected to approve modified development standards for the Iowa Clinic’s West Lakes Campus expansion. In January, the physician-owned practice announced plans for a $20 million addition at its clinic at 5950 University Ave., which will double the space of the 85,000-square-foot building.
