Nine Iowa communities have been selected to receive a total of $108,284 in grants for historic preservation projects. The State Historic Preservation Office, a bureau of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs, awarded the grants through its Certified Local Government program for historic preservation. The projects and grant amounts are:

•Des Moines Historic Preservation Commission, $25,000 to revise its citywide historic preservation plan.
•Sioux City Historic Preservation Commission, $15,000 to survey its downtown for potential sites to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
•Fort Dodge Historic Preservation Commission, $12,084 to conduct a needs assessment and rehabilitation plan for the Historic Coppin AME Chapel.
•Mason City Historic Preservation Commission, $12,000 to cover expenses for hosting the 2022 Preserve Iowa Summit.
•Warren County Historic Preservation Commission, $10,800 to hire a consultant to provide training in survey techniques and other preservation tools.
•Cedar Rapids Historic Preservation Commission, $10,800 for costs associated with nominating the late 19th- and early 20th-century residential neighborhood called Bever Woods to the National Register of Historic Places.
•Muscatine County Historic Preservation Commission, $9,600 to plan and develop construction documents for the entrance and rehabilitation of the historic Muscatine County Jail.
•State Center Historic Preservation Commission, $7,000 to hire a consultant to provide training in survey techniques and other preservation tools.
•Benton County Historic Preservation Commission, $6,000 to host a National Alliance of Preservation Commissions Commission Assistance and Mentoring Program workshop in the fall of 2021.
