An asset management company has acquired property in Ankeny on which Sysco Food Services of Iowa is located, Polk County real estate records show.
Blue Owl Capital, doing business as Syania001 LLC, paid Sysco Iowa Inc. $22.7 million for the property at 1 Sysco Place in Ankeny, records show. The 25.6-acre parcel includes a 291,855-square-foot cold storage warehouse built in 1984. The structure has been expanded over the years, including the addition of office space in 2011.
Sysco Iowa is a major wholesale distributor that supplies food and non-food products to restaurants, health care facilities, schools and other service providers. It is part of the global company, Sysco Corp.
Sysco Iowa was originally known as Hoxie Fruit and Produce Co., a food distributor that was established in Des Moines in the early 1900s. Hoxie Fruit was acquired by Continental Food Services in 1973. In 1988, Sysco Corp. acquired the company, renaming it Sysco Iowa and relocating it to Ankeny in 2001.
Blue Owl Capital, a publicly held company, is an alternative asset manager that invests institutional capital in private credit, real assets and other long-term assets. The firm reported over $307 billion in assets under management in December and is headquartered in New York with offices in the U.S., including Chicago, and internationally.
The property in Ankeny is valued at $14.4 million.
