The Amazon Echo Dot Kids Edition goes on presale today for $79 (less than the cost of some Lego kits) with child-friendly features, including answers to kid-specific questions, a Parent Dashboard to monitor kids’ activity, time limit settings and an explicit lyric filter for Amazon Music. It rewards kids for saying “please.” But Amazon designers should be wary of the fallout from previous examples like YouTube Kids and Mattel’s canceled Aristotle project — plus, when Alexa knows an individual from childhood to adult, there’s no telling how kids will learn to view Alexa.
