The electric and autonomous vehicle market is booming, but the industry is facing a major challenge in finding the skilled workforce to keep pace with demand. Learning about electric and self-driving vehicles isn’t something people generally go to school for, and with the skyrocketing demand, companies are facing a challenge filling the positions that are needed. “The amount of customers that have come to us saying [they] need to hire renewable energy experts, including battery energy storage in EV, is unprecedented. Our inbound leads are up 300%,” the CEO of Energiaworks recruiting firm, William Liuzza, told Insider. Ann Marie Sastry, CEO of artificial intelligence software company Amesite, said the question is whether talented people have the right skills. “If you ask, ‘What did the curriculum offer in terms of electric drive trains, batteries, power electronics or electric machines,’ the offerings are slim, and sometimes none,” she said.
