Kim Reynolds have changed state law to make sure everyone who owns or rents land in Iowa has the right to carry a loaded weapon — rifle or pistol, concealed or not — while riding a snowmobile or all-terrain vehicle on their own land. The bill appears to be silent on whether the weapons are for self-defense or hunting. But it does add that this applies to land that is rented, and clarifies that you don’t really have to rent the land to be included in the part about renting. “As used in this section, ‘rented by the person’ includes a person who does not necessarily rent the land but who principally provides labor for the production of crops located on agricultural land or for the production of livestock principally located on agricultural land. The person must personally provide such labor on a regular, continuous, and substantial basis.” The bill, Senate File 2231, does not include the usual explanation at the end describing the purpose of the legislation.
