Iowa Capital Dispatch: The Tyson Foods meatpacking plant in Waterloo had Iowa’s biggest cluster of COVID-19 cases since March, with 1,031 cases, the New York Times reported Wednesday. Last week, Iowa had the nation’s highest per capita rate of COVID-19 cases, months after the packing plants and nursing homes emerged as hot spots in the state. The Times analysis lists two more packing plants and two prisons as rounding out the top five clusters in Iowa. Tyson’s plant in Perry had 730 cases and the company’s facility in Storm Lake had 591. The state prison in Fort Dodge reported 399 cases and a Coralville prison 311.
