On With Life, in partnership with the Brain Injury Alliance of Iowa, will be giving away 500 bicycle helmets at the Iowa State Fair on Aug. 16. The helmet giveaway is on a first-come, first-served basis and will include toddler, youth and adult bicycle helmets. The organizations will also hold their third annual Wear Your Helmet to Work Day on Aug. 16. Both events are designed to raise awareness for the importance of helmet use in preventing brain injuries and the lack of helmet laws in Iowa. While 22 states have helmet use laws applying to minor bicyclists and 47 have helmet use laws for motorcyclists, Iowa has neither law. The helmet giveaway will be located in the Farm Bureau Park, which is east of the Varied Industries Building, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
