OC (Orange City) Pride, EerieAnna Good and Carol Ann Beal, and UnityPoint Health-Des Moines will be the honored awardees at the 10th annual Gala Celebration April 12, hosted by One Iowa, a statewide LGBTQ advocacy organization. Awardees will accept the Donna Red Wing Advocate of the Year Award (OC Pride), the Courageous 6 Award (Good and Beal) and the Sharon Malheiro Award (UnityPoint Health-Des Moines) in honor of personal and organizational LGBTQ advocacy and commitment. One Iowa also announced 14 honorary co-chairs for the event, available to view here. One Iowa’s Gala Celebration began in 2010 to commemorate Varnum v. Brien, the Iowa Supreme Court case that made Iowa the third state in the nation to recognize marriage equality. The 2019 Gala sold out more than a month in advance, making it the largest Gala in One Iowa’s history, with 1,200 people expected to attend.
