The Iowa Architectural Foundation and Des Moines Social Club, working with a grant from Terracon Foundation, will provide campers ages 8 to 13 a chance to learn about the marvel of building design and construction (what keeps that building from falling over is a question we’ve all asked) during the Adventures in Architecture day camp Aug. 6-10. Campers will be led by practicing design professionals from architectural firms and high school students involved in ACE, an architectural mentor program. They will participate in the design process, visit architecture and engineering offices, take a field trip to some landmark buildings in Des Moines and go on an “Architective” walking tour to scout out architectural elements. They also will work on a model building in teams and present their projects on the last day of class, according to a release. Cost is $225 and includes the bus tour and materials fee. Campers can register on the Des Moines Social Club website. For additional information and a complete itinerary contact director@iowaarchfoundation.org.
