The Polk County Board of Supervisors approved an agreement last week with the National Foundation for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Inc. to host Iowa’s public health analyst as part of the national Overdose Response Strategy. Under the agreement, which will renew annually, the CDC Foundation will employ the analyst. Local partners including Polk County Behavioral Health & Disability Services and the Polk County Health Department will collaborate with the foundation to develop and implement a plan that guides evidence-based overdose prevention efforts. The Overdose Response Strategy program deploys public health analysts and drug intelligence officers nationwide to identify overdose trends and support targeted interventions.
