The city of Johnston held its first public hearing Feb. 19 on the annexation of more than 800 acres.

David Wilwerding, community development director for the city, said this would be one of the largest annexations the city has seen.

The annexation area includes land east and west of Northwest 100th Street and north of Northwest 70th Avenue.

Wilwerding said in 1998 the city extended a water main through the area because several residential subdivisions requested water service from the city.

tate law requires cities to obtain the consent of at least 80 percent of affected property owners for an annexation to be approved. Wilwerding said the city of Johnston has consent from the owners of 83.66 percent of the land.

The area includes 88 homes.
