Des Moines pulled in $252,659 during January and February of this year with its red light and speed cameras. More than 7,200 citations were issued during the two months with 3,171 during January and 4,122 during February. The revenue generated from the traffic cameras is placed in the city’s general fund and allocated by the Des Moines City Council during the city budget process. Des Moines’ traffic camera citations carry the lowest penalties charged in Iowa.
