Ames-based Renewable Energy Group is getting a little extra kick in its efforts to promote environmental sustainability and the use of renewable fuels. REG has entered a partnership with British soccer club Manchester United on the mission to tackle climate change, according to a story published by Businesswire. Manchester United and REG will work together to raise awareness of the company’s products and encourage action by the club’s fan base. According to the article, Manchester United was one of the first soccer teams in the world to launch a carbon reduction program in 2008, and has reduced its annual emissions from its operations by 2,700 tons. Collette Roche, Manchester United chief operating officer, said the team’s platform puts it in a position to influence action on climate change. “We will now work with Renewable Energy Group to explore ways of shrinking our carbon footprint further,” Roche said. “Together, we can make a difference in the fight against climate change, and the goal of developing a greener, cleaner planet.” REG CEO and President Cynthia Warner said the partnership with Manchester United is a natural fit. “The world is at a critical juncture in which we are all recognizing that we must do more to reduce harmful emissions, and there is a growing desire to secure more immediate and practical low-carbon solutions,” she said. “Together, alongside Manchester United, we will amplify our simple-to-adopt opportunities for individuals and organizations to reduce carbon now.”
