Rockwell Collins profits jump in first quarter

Cedar Rapids-based Rockwell Collins Inc.’s profits increased 38 percent in its fiscal first quarter as a result of strong sales to the commercial and government markets, reported the Associated Press.

Net income increased to $143 million, or 84 cents per share, for the three months ended Dec. 31, compared with $104 million, or 59 cents per share, a year earlier. Sales rose to $993 million from $881 million a year ago.

Sales to aircraft manufacturers and airlines increased 21 percent to $492 million last quarter, and sales of electronics, communications and other systems to the government rose 6 percent to $501 million.
