Rockwell Collins wins contract with Boeing
Cedar Rapids-based Rockwell Collins will provide a variety of systems for Boeing Co.’s new 747-8 wide-body jets and freighters, reported the Associated Press. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Rockwell Collins, a maker of military and commercial aviation electronics and communication equipment, will provide display, navigation and data management systems for the 747-8 fleet scheduled to be completed by the end of 2009. One of the reasons Boeing selected Rockwell Collins is for its hazard detection system, a radar system that analyzes and determines actual weather hazards and not just atmospheric moisture content.
The 747-8 aircraft will seat 467 people and the freighter version will have a maximum capacity of 154 tons.
Rockwell Collins’ shares rose 15 cents to $68.42 in afternoon trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
