Ruan Inc. has promoted John Ruan IV to the position of president and chief operating officer, the Des Moines-based company announced today. 
 
All subsidiaries and divisions of Ruan Inc. will report directly to Ruan, including Concentric Inc., Ruan Car Sales and Leasing, Avis/Budget Rent-A-Car of Des Moines and Jonbar Ranch. He will also retain the position of president of Ruan Center Corp. 
 
“I’m very proud to place John IV into this key leadership role within our family of companies,” said John Ruan III, chairman of Ruan Inc. “He has proven himself a strong leader with a talent for developing people and business. I’m confident in his abilities to continue the family vision that began back in 1932.” 
 
The elder Ruan said his son will continue to divide his time between Ruan Inc., and Bankers Trust Co., where he serves as vice president and financial institutions officer. John Ruan IV holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Southern Methodist University and a law degree from the University of Iowa College of Law. 
 
He is is active on several community boards and civic organizations, including the Des Moines Symphony, Junior Achievement of Central Iowa and the Riverfront YMCA.
 
Ruan IV also was a 2013 Business Record Forty Under 40 honoree.
