SHAZAM Inc., a Johnston-based company that operates the SHAZAM electronic funds transfer network, has launched a new mobile point-of-sale payments application for financial institutions and merchants. The application, called Adaptive Payments Pentagon, allows merchants to accept debit and credit transactions using iPhone and Android mobile phone and tablet devices. The application’s specialized personal identification number authentication technology was developed by Adaptive Payments Inc. SHAZAM announced last week that it had made a strategic investment in that company, which is based in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
