Minneapolis-based Sherman Associates, a company active in the redevelopment of downtown Des Moines, has proposed a mixed-use development in its hometown that includes a 22-story apartment tower with two levels of underground parking and a six-story building for low-income housing around a 312-stall parking ramp, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported. The project includes space for a restaurant or other retailers. The company recently finished a project that includes luxury apartments and several retailers, including a Trader Joe’s. It is converting another complex into a hotel and wants to build a hotel and apartment development, the Star-Tribune said. More than a decade ago, Sherman triggered the development of industrial land south of Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway in downtown Des Moines. Much of that original landscape has been taken over by Hubbell Realty Co. Sherman also has been involved in restorations, including the Hotel Randolph, as well as new multifamily construction in Des Moines.
