SoldierStrong, Eagles donate robotic exoskeleton to Younker Rehabilitation

157 wordsAll Latest News, Health and WellnessYounker Rehabilitation at Iowa Methodist Medical Center now has a robotic exoskeleton to help patients who have had a stroke or spinal cord injury to walk again. SoldierStrong, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing advanced medical technologies to veterans, joined forces with the Fraternal Order of Eagles — Iowa State Aerie & Auxiliary to donate an EksoGT, the first exoskeleton suit approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for use by patients of stroke and spinal cord injuries. Younker Rehabilitation is the first center in the state to offer the assistive technology, UnityPoint Health-Des Moines said in a news release. “We are excited about the addition of the EksoGT at Younker Rehabilitation for our patients to improve their ability to function and become as independent as possible,” said Dr. Dan Shamir, medical director of Younker Rehabilitation. It’s the 16th exoskeleton device that SoldierStrong has donated to rehabilitation centers and Veterans Affairs hospitals across the United States.
