Phase one of the Southview Senior Apartments has been approved by the Des Moines Plan and Zoning Commission. The complex will be located at 1900 S.E. Sixth St.

The first phase of the project includes a 40-unit senior living apartment building that will face East Hillside Avenue. Work on the estimated $5.9 million project is scheduled to begin next week.

The second phase of the project will start next year. “We can’t wait to finally get going,” said Tim Mauro, developer of the project. “It’s been a three-year ordeal.”
