The West Des Moines Plan and Zoning Commission approved an amendment to city code last week that would allow Stacey’s Prom and Stacey’s Bra & Lingerie Inc. to move forward with a plan to open a new store location and reception hall at the former Quality Ford site at 1271 Eighth St. The amendment is expected to go before the city council for approval tonight.

However, Amy Beattie of Brick Gentry P.C., who is representing the business, said the deal to buy the building is still “very much up in the air.” Jessica Clinton, associate planner with the city said Stacey’s has not yet submitted an application to build on or make improvements to the site.

The location, owned by 1271 8th Street LLC, which has a New York address, is assessed at $2.733 million for the building and 3.5 acres. Quality Ford closed in 2007 after the dealership, owned by Franklin Greene, ran into financial trouble.
