State panel to review education literacy standards
The Iowa Department of Education announced that the Literacy Standards Review Team on Wednesday will begin reviewing the K-12 English language arts standards and the grades 6-12 literacy standards for history, social studies, science and technical subjects. The meeting, which is open to the public, will be held in Room B100 of the Grimes State Office Building, 400 E. 14th St. in Des Moines, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Additional meetings have been scheduled for March 23, April 27, May 25, and June 22. The process was prompted by the governor’s Executive Order 83 that calls for an ongoing review of Iowa’s academic standards, including public comment, to identify areas for improvement.
