Des Moines Register: Sterzing’s Potato Chips has had to change its recipe, and loyal fans of the Iowa-made snack have been vocal about the difference. The Burlington company was forced to significantly change its 85-year-old recipe in light of a U.S. Food and Drug Administration mandate banning oils that contain trans fats. The new oil paired with the tried-and-true cooking process didn’t match up. Customers have been calling and emailing and hollering through social media since the change in March. It’s been back to the drawing board since, and now Sterzing’s food scientist think they’ve homed in on a winning formula this week.
