STOCK WATCH: Iowa stocks turn in strong November

All but four of the Iowa company stocks the Business Record follows gained ground in November.

It was a good month for furniture and media companies, by the looks of it.

Among the biggest one-month gainers were Flexsteel Industries Inc. at 30.98 percent; HNI Corp., 29.78 percent; and Bank of America Corp., 28 percent. Also posting gains of more than 20 percent for the month were Voya Financial, Meta Financial Group Inc., Great Western Bancorp Inc., Gannett Co. Inc., Meredith Corp., and FBL Financial Group.

Among the companies suffering the biggest drops in November were KemPharm Inc., Windstream Holdings Inc., NewLink Genetics Corp. and Workiva Inc.

The Iowa Index, an unweighted average price of 23 Iowa-based public companies, outpaced the major indexes, gaining 13.7 percent. The Dow Jones industrial average gained 5.4 percent, the Nasdaq 2.59 percent.

Meta Financial was the biggest gainer in the rolling one-year gains, up 102.11 percent from November 2015. Lee Enterprises was up 72.3 percent in the same period.
