Susan G. Komen, the world’s largest breast cancer organization, has recognized the Iowa affiliate in Des Moines as affiliate of the year. The award recognizes the best overall effort in advancing the Komen vision and promise to end breast cancer forever, and demonstrated commitment to collaboration across the organization. Roger Dahl has been the Iowa affiliate’s executive director for four years. Komen Iowa provided screening services for more than 1,400 high-risk individuals in the past year and received accreditation from Des Moines University, allowing it to present critical research findings to medical professionals and lay audiences. Komen Iowa also demonstrated excellence in its ability to diversify revenue through new partnerships, increasing third-party revenue by 23 percent last year. For the past three years it has partnered with the Iowa Wild hockey team to put on Pink in the Rink, a cancer awareness fundraising game that brings in more than 10,000 people and $30,000.
