The jury process for the 2010 Des Moines Arts Festival began Wednesday and is being led by jurors Larassa Kabel, Daryl Thetford, Taman VanScory, Gilbert Vicario (Read a Business Record Closer Look) and Tilly Woodward. The panel will decide which of the 1,127 visual artists who applied will receive invitations to participate in the 2010 juried art fair. The festival will offer 168 spaces through the jury process.

Iowa Workforce Development will receive $1.17 million in State Labor Market Information Improvement Grants to help link job seekers find green jobs, Sen. Tom Harkin announced Wednesday. The funding comes from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 and will be used to help facilitate the supply and demand for workers in a green economy. According to a press release, “the funding will provide investments for the development of methods that will estimate the impact of green technology implementation on employment; create a system to distribute data that will inform job seekers, the public, job educators and training providers, and others of the occupational skills and growing needs of green jobs industries; and provide funding for an online job bank that specifically identifies green jobs for job seekers and the development of other online tools and approaches that will encourage local residents to prepare for and apply for jobs being created in their local area.”

Jennifer Kalat has been named beauty managing director of Meredith 360°, a newly created position in Meredith Corp.’s strategic marketing unit, the company announced Wednesday. Kalat joined Meredith from The Wall Street Journal, where she served as luxury account manager last year. She will be responsible for increasing visibility and awareness of Meredith within the beauty community.

The Apple tablet computer, which is rumored to be a flat touch-screen computer the size of a piece of paper (see an artists rendition), won’t be arriving as rumored in early 2010, according to a rumor report by Fortune Brainstorm Tech. The report says Apple plans to make two models, a 10.6-inch LCD screen in the $800 to $1,000 range, and a more expensive 9.7-inch organic LED estimated to sell for as much as $1,200 to $1,500.
